Sabine Karam
Sabine Karam is a Lebanese American artist working with ceramics and bronze.
She is a graduate of the Lebanese University with a Master’s degree in Biology and holds a degree in fashion design. She decided to pursue a career in art and started with painting (oil and watercolor) but she was not satisfied. When she moved to NY City she enrolled at the Art Students League. There she discovered her passion for sculpture and hand-built work and she knew immediately that this was her artistic calling. She then took formal education in ceramics at the Arts Center of the Capital Region (ACCR) in Troy, NY from 2006 to 2012. After living 15 years in NY, she returned to Lebanon.
She is an award winning-artist award twice at competitions organized by the Modern and Contemporary Art Museum (MACAM) taking first prize in 2014 and second prize in 2017. The winning pieces are part of the permanent collection of MACAM. She participated in many collective exhibitions in New York and Lebanon. Her hand-built ceramics are graceful and sensual in their delicate asymmetry with flowing abstract shapes. She never gets tired of the unending possibilities that clay offers and is constantly in awe of the majestic natural world.
In 2020, the electricity interruption forced her to work with bronze, and discovered its distinctive characteristics. Sabine is still engaged in continuing education through various channels.
About her Work
Motion 1 is a graceful and sensual sculpture with flowing abstract shapes, showing dynamics and movements. Her abstract sculptural work, a pure representation of shapes rejects traditional realism associated with figurative sculptures. However, it’s not just about shapes or representations they are about emotions, feelings, and dreams.
