Elias Bazouni

B. 1953, Hadshit

Elias Bazouni pursued his studies in interior design at Saint Esprit University in Kaslik, where he obtained his degree in 1982. However, it was in the realm of sculpting that he found his true passion, dedicating himself to this art form since 1984.

Nature, music, and poetry are the cornerstones of Bazouni's life. His profound love for nature and art converges in his deep admiration for the rocks that he sculpts with unwavering dedication and poetic sensibility. He retreats into solitude, isolating himself from society and any potential disturbances, to create his masterpieces.

In 1981, Bazouni showcased his artwork for the first time at a festival in Hadshit. Subsequently, he exhibited at the Gallery Épreuve d'Artiste in 1986 and participated in various notable exhibitions such as the Baghdad Biennale in 1988, the Byblos Lions Club exhibit in 1992, and the Gibran Khalil Gibran exhibition in 1998, among others.

His sculptures can be found adorning numerous public squares and esteemed collections both in Lebanon and abroad. Presently, Bazouni operates from his atelier in Amchit, where he not only creates but also exhibits his art. He also actively engages in commissioned works, further expanding his artistic repertoire.

About his Work

Since he embarked on his sculpting journey in 1984, Elias Bazouni has devoted himself to the depiction of the nude form, primarily using marble and carefully selected fine stones. His artwork portrays the female nude in various postures – standing, reclining, and introspective poses – all executed with a naturalistic touch that accentuates the softness of the skin. In his artistic vision, he likens the woman to a vessel overflowing with a range of emotions, from concern to allure.

Rather than adhering to a specific sculpting style, Bazouni blends multiple styles to create his distinctive approach. His artistic style can be described as rooted in academic traditions while incorporating modern influences.

When discussing abstraction, Bazouni emphasizes the abstraction of ideas rather than the lines he employs. He believes that true masterpieces originate from deep emotions rather than mere conceptual notions. Through this approach, he infuses his creations with a profound sense of emotion and passion.
