about MACAM
Modern and Contemporary Art Museum

Lebanese-Venezuelan sculptor Alida Torbay drew inspiration from the verses of the Spanish poet Antonio Machado for her latest creation: “Caminante no hay camino, se hace camino al andar” (Wayfarer, there is no path, the path is done by walking).

After the Cervantes Institute of Beirut, the wayfarer continues his journey. The bronze and resin sculptures of Alida Torbay will be revealed at MACAM. There, the artist merges her sculptural creations with videos and images projected all around, bringing to life an evocative world in the style of George Orwell to capture the visitor’s imagination.

The exhibition is curated by Angelo Gioé, a curator of Contemporary Art and Architecture. He is currently the director of the Italian Institute of Culture in Beirut.

"Murmures Textiles" (Whispered Fabric)

CONSTANCE BOULAY

Born in 1987 | Lives and works in Saint-Nazaire, France

Constance Boulay arrives in Lebanon with an empty suitcase, ready for discovery. Through her interactions, she gathers old fabrics imbued with stories. These materials create a space where imagination explores escape, twists, humanity, and healing.
Her works in "MurMures Textiles" (Whispered Fabric) evoke powerful symbols like the banyan tree, with its aerial roots.

Constance Boulay’s practice combines photography, collage, textile sculpture, and installation. By repurposing forgotten or abandoned materials, Boulay crafts anthropomorphic sculptures that explore the concept of forgetfulness and offer a unique commentary on memory.

Here, you'll discover more than just art—it's an adventure! Wander through the outdoor space, surrounded by nature, or step into the indoor gallery, home to an incredible collection of Lebanese sculptures and installations. The Panorama of Sculpture in Lebanon, our permanent exhibition, unfolds a century of artistic brilliance with over 400 artworks.
